Field Day

Taking a break from GourdJewels today to tend to my corn field out on Hopi. I travel two hours from flagstaff to Hopi to spend some time in my field. I get help from my mom and brother in taking care of the field, since getting a good crop is a full time job. 

What do I do in the field? Well since I do dry farming, I am in the sun all day pulling weeds, talking and singing to my plants, and breaking up the ground to let the roots breathe. I don't water the corn, so faith in our prayers for rain sustain the growth of our corn. I never used to like planting, but learned to love the joy in growing life.
